Pinewood School Students On A Dry Footing

Pinewood School in Blackburn, West Lothian has been given a major boost with the development of a brand new environmentally friendly paving system.

The extensive paving installed at the school is one of the first major projects in West Lothian to use Tobermore's pioneering Hydropave permeable paving system which is designed to help control flooding and environmental problems.

Pinewood School is the only school in West Lothian which caters for children aged 5 to 18 who have a range of additional needs such as autism, downs syndrome and children with physical disabilities. So it was very important to provide a safe secure area, where the children could play in all conditions. One of the major benefits in this case was the fact that after rainfall there would be no puddles where the children could get wet.

Permeable Paving has become very important in reducing flooding and pollution problems in risk areas across Britain and Ireland. Tobermores Hydropave Permeable Paving has already offered solutions to contractors across England, Scotland and Ireland in other large commercial projects including Hotels, Car Parks, Retail Parks, Housing Developments, Commercial Buildings and other Schools and Universities.

The product allows water to escape below the paving to a gravel bed where, it is stored and released in a controlled manner either back into the ground or into the existing storm water system.

The water is filtered as it goes through the system and harmful pollutants are also removed. Research has shown that Tobermores Hydropave can remove over 90% of Hydrocarbons and heavy metal pollutants which are highly dangerous to Flora and Fauna if they were allowed to enter the streams and waterways.

Tobermore's Area Sales Executive for the project, Tom Menzies said: "We are

delighted that West Lothian Council has decided to use our Hydropave permeable paving system and that Maxi Construction finished the project to the highest standards.

In this case we are delighted that we can help the children and perhaps make playtime more enjoyable for them.

Tom Continues, In addition to its immense practical advantages, the new smooth finish Shannon Duo Hydropave blocks used at the school look fantastic and complement the attractive look of the new building that gives staff, students and visitors an excellent first impression which is so important in the education sector Tom concludes.
